Rear-view camera coding after installation

A genuine rear-view camera fitted after delivery shows nothing as long as the vehicle does not know it exists. Coding registers it, enables the display on the infotainment screen and the dynamic guide lines. It is the software part of the retrofit, which we perform remotely once the camera is wired.

What the job covers

Adding the camera to the gateway's list of control units when it has its own module, coding the infotainment unit for the display, enabling guide lines and, on vehicles with parking sensors, the combined view with the parking aids. On recent models an SVM validation is often required; it is included when it is.

Genuine or aftermarket camera

Coding applies to genuine manufacturer cameras, new or used, and to compatible kits using the same protocol. A used camera may need component protection removal, which we include in the quote. Universal cameras wired to an analogue video input are not a coding matter.

What you need

  • The camera fitted and wired up to the infotainment unit
  • The camera reference and its purchase invoice
  • A Windows laptop with TeamViewer or AnyDesk and a VNCI or VAS 6154A interface

On recent models protected by SFD (Golf 8, Octavia 4, Leon 4, A3 8Y, Formentor…), the activation goes through an authenticated unlock with the manufacturer. Our technicians perform it during the session; the quote reflects it.

Understanding SFD

Frequently asked questions

I fitted a used camera and the screen stays black.
Two possible causes, sometimes combined: the camera is not coded, or it is still under component protection from its original vehicle. We handle both in the same session, on presentation of the purchase invoice.
Is an SVM needed?
On recent MQB and MLB platforms, almost always: without validation, a configuration fault comes back at every start. We determine it on your VIN.

Check feasibility on your vehicle

Enter your VIN: we read the exact version of your control units, and your request arrives pre-filled with this feature.

A VIN never contains the letters I, O or Q.
