Remote CarPlay and Android Auto activation

On most VAG group vehicles built since 2015, the infotainment unit is capable of CarPlay and Android Auto but the feature was never ordered from the factory. It can be unlocked by software, remotely, in a session of about thirty minutes.

How the activation works

The technician first identifies your infotainment unit from the VIN and the auto-scan: MIB2 Composition or Discover Media, MIB2 Harman on Audi, MIB2.5 or MIB3. That version dictates the method.

Depending on the unit, activation is done by coding the infotainment control unit or by installing a feature code (FEC / SWaP), the software key the manufacturer itself uses to enable an option after the sale. On recent MIB3 units, wireless CarPlay is enabled by coding when the hardware supports it.

What to know before asking

The feature depends on the hardware. An entry-level Composition Colour unit without a data USB port will never run CarPlay, whatever the coding. The quote tells you clearly after your VIN has been analysed.

  • Volkswagen, SEAT, Škoda: App-Connect on MIB2 from 2015-2016, MIB2.5 and MIB3.
  • Audi: Audi smartphone interface on MMI Navigation and Navigation plus from 2016.
  • CUPRA: standard or activatable depending on trim, wireless on MIB3.
  • The price depends on whether a manufacturer feature code is needed: it is set by quote.

What you need

  • A Windows laptop with TeamViewer or AnyDesk
  • A VNCI 6154A or VAS 6154A interface
  • Your phone's original USB cable for the final test
  • The vehicle within reach of a stable Internet connection

On recent models protected by SFD (Golf 8, Octavia 4, Leon 4, A3 8Y, Formentor…), the activation goes through an authenticated unlock with the manufacturer. Our technicians perform it during the session; the quote reflects it.

Will it work on my car?
If it was built after 2015 and has a touchscreen with a data USB port, very likely. Send your VIN: we check the infotainment version before any quote, and we tell you no if it cannot be done.
Is the activation permanent?
Yes. It is written into the infotainment unit and survives manufacturer updates when it relies on a feature code, which is the official method.
Do I need a box or an adapter?
No. The activation is purely software. No third-party box is plugged into your car.
